Ayurvedic DietIn Ayurveda, food is medicine. Most diseases can easily be prevented by following a diet that balances our body's particular tendencies to go out of balance. First of all, a healing diet is vegetarian. No one can achieve optimum health while they are consuming dead animals, aborted eggs, or fish. Such contaminated food covers over our natural spiritual consciousness and makes understanding spiritual knowledge impossible. In many years of teaching spiritual life I have never seen a non-vegetarian understand the science of consciousness or the soul. The next factor is that our food must be spiritualized. All food, even vegetarian food, contains karma from the unavoidable violence performed to living creatures in cultivating and preparing it. And all food, being a product of Nature, actually belongs to God. So our food must be offered to God with love and devotion before tasting it ourselves. This sanctified food is called prasadam, and is has very potent healing qualities. Then our food must contain a complete protein. This means that we have to mix grains and legumes in the same meal so that we consume all the essential amino acids. Otherwise we will get a protein deficiency, and this is the main reason that people have trouble keeping to a vegetarian diet. The Vedic tradition includes many unique and healthful ways of preparing food. These vegetarian recipes offer the perfection of purity, nutrition and taste. They have been handed down for thousands of years through an unbroken chain of spiritual masters for whom cooking and eating in spiritual consciousness were holy and joyful celebrations of spiritual life. Scientifically developed by ancient sages to nourish the body, the mind and the spirit itself, these palatable dishes increase one's life expectancy, purify one's existence and give strength, health, happiness and satisfaction. You will get a taste of these delectable treats when you visit our Institute.
