Our Vision and Mission

Catemaco Ayurvedic Institute is the result of a unique vision of spiritual Master Teacher David Bruce Hughes. He envisioned a holistic health institute founded on the authentic spiritual and medical principles of the Vedas, keeping the treatments and practices of Ayurveda firmly in the original Vedic philosophical context of karma-yoga, or work as devotional service. It would be rooted in sustainable organic farming and land-management practices in harmony with Nature, and would be integrated with a traditional village economy. Finally, it would be in an ecologically pristine location, isolated yet accessible to the world.

All these criteria are met by Catemaco Ayurvedic Institute. It is a branch of an authentic spiritual school based on the Esoteric Teaching of the Vedas, hosting qualified international students for spiritual retreats and instruction. The founder's spiritual master, Abhay Charan De, was an Ayurvedic pharmacist from Bengal, India. The institute thrives in the tiny village of Las Margaritas on the shore of Lake Catemaco, one of the most beautiful and ecologically sound tourist destinations in Mexico. Many knowledgeable people consider Lake Catemaco to be the most powerful spiritual center in the Americas. Although Las Margaritas is at the end of a rough gravel road accessible only by SUV or horse, it is only three hours from Veracruz International Airport.

Catemaco Ayurvedic Institute is firmly integrated into the Mexican rural economy, investing in local infrastructure and appropriate technology, and partnering with the leading herbalist families of its host village. Although based on the universal spiritual teachings of the Vedas, it is not a religious or missionary organization, but an educational and economic-development asset harmonious with the spiritual life and values of its village. It also presents free educational seminars on Ayurveda and holistic health in the town of Catemaco, a world-class semitropical ecotourism destination, to promote local awareness of holistic health techniques.

We grow our own Tulasi and other exotic healing herbs using pure organic techniques. All our herbal essences are made using cold-press extraction, so no valuable medicinal properties are lost by heating or solvents. Our unique Healing Waters are collected by hand from a 10-meter-tall waterfall fed by Las Margaritas Spring. No humans or animals have access to the spring upstream of the collection point. Finally, all our products are offered in traditional Vedic ceremonies in an authentic Vedic temple, and empowered with potent mantras by qualified Vedic monks.
